ABOUT
My research interest covers a wide area of artificial intelligence research such as Natural Language Processing, Game Development and Bioinformatics. I am from Delhi, India and moved to Singapore in 1998 for my undergraduate studies in Computer Engineering at National University of Singapore. I started working as a research assistant in 2002 in the Advanced Numerical Simulations Lab at Nanyang Technological University. My PhD thesis was submitted in 2013 and focused on developing Bayesian models from time series data. During my post-doc I extended my work to Deep Learning models where Bayesian theory can be used as prior knowledge. Facial Expression prediction and Sentiment Analysis from Text are the main applications of my research.
TEACHING
INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
The subject explains models to classify text data such as SVM and k-Means. Next, we explain the pre-processing of text data and the design of a search engine such as Google. Lastly, it covers product review generation from the web and chatbots that can converse in different languages.
PYTHON PROGRAMMING
We have developed artificial intelligence-based tasks for an introductory python programming module. Here, students learn to detect facial expressions using Keras.
DATA PROCESSING
This subject teaches elementary data analysis in python. It covers hypothesis testing for categorical variables and linear regression for quantitative variables.
NEWS
PHD POSITIONS
I am able to supervise a PhD student in the coming year at James Cook University, Townsville campus.

If you are interested in doing an inter-disciplinary project, then we can request an appropriate secondary advisor in another department.
Scholarships are based on the ranking of candidates as explained here:
